When It Pays To Be Cheap: Window Blinds For Your Patio Door

When it comes to home renovation or adding a patio to your home, budgets can evaporate in the blink of an eye. With escalating construction costs, special materials and consulting fees, it’s absolutely critical to curb your budget wherever possible, and your patio door blinds are a great place to start. Why waste precious dollars on special French door drapes when you can do just as well, at half the cost, with some simple, cheap window blinds for your patio door?

A Matter of Lower Price and Better Value

Cheap window blinds are nothing to frown upon, especially when you can find creative and effective uses for them. There’s no shame in being thrifty, and in this still dismal economy it’s a virtue to be embraced. Unless you have particularly atypical patio doors, traditional window blinds will provide you with all the shade and comfort you need.

Besides, the more minimal and basic your blinds are, the less they will distract from the beauty of your patio door and the view it’s meant to display beyond it. Find a simple model with a solid color (white, beige, black, or blue) and take a minimalist approach to your design, and nobody will speculate that you did it for cheap.

Window blinds come in a variety of shapes and sizes, both vertical and horizontal, and if properly configured they can cover any window or patio door. Simply measure the area you need to cover and act accordingly; sliding glass doors are best shaded by vertical blinds mounted above the frame of the door, and more traditional vinyl blinds, if the right length, can be mounted to the top wooden panel of French doors, one on each side of the divide.

Remember: You Are Being Smart, Not Cheap

Window blinds and shades are an important component of interior decorating, but of course, every component is important in the eyes of a decorator. In the grand scheme of your home design—your flooring, your furniture, your walls, your organization and Feng-Shui—as important as blinds are, they reside at a relatively modest place in your overall prioritizes. Consider how often your platio door curtains will be drawn, likely only a few hours of each day.

The majority of the time you want to enjoy the light and view offered by your patio door. Basic window and patio door blinds are designed, in part, to be practical and otherwise unremarkable. How many houses have you visited where you were simply wowed by somebody’s window blinds, or disgusted by them, or even noticed them at all?

The difference between an expensive blind for a patio door and a cheap window blind is great in costs, but almost unnoticeable in actual use. Remember that what you need from your window blinds is occasional shade and privacy. Other than that, save some money on the blinds for your patio doors, and save a few dollars for the patio itself—this isn’t being cheap, this is just common sense.

The secret—and the savings—will be all yours.
